Cinerary urn of the Flavian age

This holder made of white marble is a cinerary urn datable to around the Flavian age (second half I century a.D.), which was found in a arched niche in a columbarium situated in Pozzuoli.
The urn is rectangular shaped like a sarcophagus and is enclosed by a gable roof; on the pediment there are two peacocks, while on the extremities there are four little sculptures which recall the major religious decorations of the building.
On the front facade (the posterior one is smooth) there is a quadrangular area where an inscription about the dead used to be, at whose sides there are an ox’s heads with a wreath of flowers and fruits. On the lateral facades there are two palmettes with nine leaves.
